Overview
The LMS app is a "companion" app to the original web-based version of the LMS.
This means that it does not (currently) offer all of the functionality you can experience in the browser.
The app's primary focus is finding and completing learning content. This means finding and interacting with modules, courses, and the types of content that exist inside modules and courses. All content types that can be used inside of a module are supported in the mobile app. If you need the full functionality of the website on a mobile device, you can access it via a mobile browser.
Home Screen
Upon login, users land on the Home screen. The Home screen hosts the following sections:
- Recently Viewed hosts recently viewed modules.
- Up Next hosts modules that the user is currently enrolled in and has not yet completed.
- Recommended Content hosts modules that have been recommended to the user via a suggested enrollment.
- Bookmarked hosts modules that the user has saved using the "Watch Later" function.
- Resources is equivalent to the learn library – all modules available to the learner who is logged in that are set to be viewable in library.
The mobile app respects all permissions and access rules set on modules exactly as the web version does.
Home Screen
Upon login, users land on the Home screen. The Home screen provides quick access to key features:
- In-App Inbox, Calendar, Share, and Connect are available directly from the Home screen.
Dashboard Widgets
The following Dashboard widgets are available on the LMS App:
- Announcements
- Banners
- Curated Content
- Events
- Filtered Content
- Help
- Homework Submissions
- Observation Checklists
- Polls
- Text Box
- Video Player
For the most part, the configuration and setting options for each of the widgets remain the same as their page widget counterparts. However, some widgets have slightly different setting options, and they're highlighted below.
Curated Content
The Curated Content widget provides settings for Status, Title and Display options Show Title and Autohide if Empty.
Filtered Content
The Filtered Content widget settings options are Status, Content to Display, Widget Title, and Display options Show Title and Hide if Empty.
Help Widget
The Help widget settings are limited to Status and Help Email.
Calendar
Users can track upcoming enrollments and events with the Calendar, accessible from the Home screen. Tap the Calendar icon to navigate to a dedicated Calendar page.
The Calendar offers two views:
- Month — A traditional calendar view showing events and enrollments on their scheduled dates.
- List — A chronological list of upcoming items.
Both views show users what upcoming events or enrollments they may need to pay attention to.
Users can sync the LMS calendar to their device calendar by toggling the Sync with my device toggle found in the Month view.
Search
The app supports only search of modules and media.
Notifications
Because the app is learning-focused, most push notifications are also learning focused. Push notifications in the mobile app align to notification settings in the admin tool. If the Setting is enabled, and the Trigger occurs, a push notification with the specified Title and Message will be sent to the affected learner as per the chart here.
You can also push notifications for Community Broadcasts.
Administration
Some aspects of the user experience of the mobile app can be configured by a Super Admin. These settings can be found under the admin tool "Settings" tab, in the "Mobile App" pill.
You are able to configure an app-specific logo, two primary brand colors, decide if you want your company name to be displayed in the app header, and specify special app-only thumbnails for modules.
Changing these settings will change the app interface for all of your site users.
Image Cropping
The image cropping tool supports resizing the crop box while maintaining a fixed aspect ratio across all image upload locations (Pages widgets, App Settings logo, Module cover images, Dialogs, Certifications).
Share
The Share tool is available under the 3-dot menu. NOTE: Users will need to provide the Wisetail App permission to access all media on their device.
Limitations
- A user's first login cannot occur on the mobile app – they must login via a browser in order to set their password and complete registration (if required)
- At this time the app does not support module Comments, User Contributions, or Connect
- At this time the app does not support offline content.
- At this time, all languages via the Multi-Language Tool are supported
Available Admin Tasks Available In-App
- Quick Enrollments
- Create a User, and immediately send a Welcome Email (if desired). Note that at this time, Welcome Emails cannot be sent later via the app, though you can use the web-based tool to do so.
Admin Dashboard Widgets
We're excited to introduce several Admin Dashboard Widgets to the LMS Mobile App.
From the Dashboard page of the Admin Tool, three widgets now have an Add to mobile dashboard checkbox. The three widgets available are:
- Module Completions
- User Activity
- Enrollments
When checked, the selected widgets are made visible on the user's LMS App. From the Mobile App, the User will see a new Admin Dashboard section on the top of their Home screen.
When the Admin clicks View, they will be navigated to a new page where their selection of widgets will appear. Admins can interact with the widgets in the same way they would on the web.
