Bulk User Upload Tool

Introduction

The Upload Users tool supports the ability to bulk upload a set of users directly into your LMS.

Usage

  1. Ensure that you have created and set the permissions in settings for each of the Profile Fields you will want to import.
  2. Navigate to Admin Tool → Users.
  3. Click Upload Users:

  4. Create your Upload File:
    1. Download the Template. This is a CSV file with all of your Profile Fields.

    2. Note the row indicating if the profile field is Required or Optional in your Profile Field settings. This rows needs to be deleted before re-uploading.

    3. If your site has profile fields with really long names, review the template file column headers. The bulk upload tool may have problems successfully uploading if the column header is more than 64 characters long or contains special characters. You may wish to remove such file columns from the import file before proceeding.

    4. Populate the desired template file with each user’s data on a single row.
    5. Save the file in .CSV format.
    6. Ensure both Username and Profile Field names are unique. Duplicates will result in errors in the uploading process.
  5. Import the file
    1. Navigate back to the Users tab and click on Import CSV again.
    2. Select & upload the file.
    3. Once you confirm, the upload the system will validate the users.
    4. A progress tracker will be visible on the lower right corner of the screen to help you understand when the file is done processing.
    5. Once validated, the users will be created.
    6. After the users have been created, you will have the option to send the users a Welcome Email. After visa finished sending, you will receive an email summary, with information about the number of successful emails sent.

If you plan to use a datafeed in the future, or have an existing datafeed, things to keep in mind: 

    • You need to ensure that the usernames will match in both.
    • You need to ensure that you populate whatever profile field will be used as the match on in the datafeed.

Note:

1. You can no longer use this tool to update existing users.

2. Should you run into challenges with performing a first time user import, please reach out to your Account Manager and Wisetail can assist with this process.
