What does "Managed By" mean on a user, and how does it relate to my datafeed?

If you have a datafeed configured, your users will have a "Managed By" section on their profile in edit mode. This has one of two modes it will display. The first is Managed By Manually, meaning that the user was created manually, and can only manually edited. The second is Managed By Some Datafeed Name. This shows that the user was created, and can only be edited via the named datafeed.

Note that you cannot edit users who are managed by a datafeed.

If you're ever in a hurry and need to to create a user before your datafeed can get to them, make sure to populate the match-on field (this varies from site to site, but is typically Employee ID), and to set Managed By to the appropriate datafeed. This will ensure that the datafeed keeps this user up to date going forward.
