When a user is deleted rather than simply deactivated, there are a number of impacts that you may want to take into consideration before deciding to permanently delete a user.

When a user is deleted, the following is permanently lost along with them:

  • Reports: All saved & custom reports, including scheduled reports.
  • Training history: module activity and module activity history, module progress, module views, media activity and history, test attempts and individual answers, homework responses and their uploaded files, observation queue entries.
  • Enrollments: current, rolling, and full enrollment history.
  • Recognition and gamification: points log, badges, badge nominations (given and received), certifications, recognition messages both sent and received.
  • Profile data: all profile values, plus the underlying text/date field values if no other user shares them; also any profile values where this user was the related user (so other people's manager/supervisor fields pointing at them).
  • Social/engagement: likes, follows, votes, bookmarks, uploaded user media, profile photos
  • Memberships and config: group memberships, event session attendance, report recipient entries, and any permission rule expressions that referenced this user by ID or as a user-to-user field value.
  • Audit Logs: their revisions records, which is the thing that would otherwise let you reconstruct what changed.
