Knowledge Base Terms

  • Compendium - An exhaustive list of all of a certain something with a quick summary of each. Usually with an article to more detailed information linked to each item. Example: The Reports Compendium.
  • Overview - Fairly straight forward: a big picture article that covers the basics of a topic.
  • Deep Dive - All the nitty-gritty details that won't fit into an Overview article.

General Terms

  • LMS - Learning Management System; used for training and compliance tracking. 
  • LXP - Learning Experience Platform; an LXP is learning software designed to create more personalized learning experiences and help users discover new learning opportunities.
  • OnTrack - OnTrack is a location-based Checklist and Action-item collaboration tool by Wisetail.
  • SSO - Single Sign On; a method for authenticating users on one platform.

The Wisetail LMS Terms

LMS: A Learning Management System. Used for training and compliance tracking.  Wisetail provides an excellent LMS which scales from small organizations, to Enterprise level clients.

  • Tools
    • Admin Tool - The portion of your Wisetail site where you administer and configure your site. Accessible at https://yourSite.wisetail.com/admin.
    • Learner Tool - The portion of your Wisetail site where users access the site  for learning, social engagement, and more. Accessible at https://yourSite.wisetail.com.
  • Datafeed - An automated system to ingest a file to create, update and deactivate users.
    • Dry Run - A Dry Run for a datafeed will process all the data in the datafeed file, log errors, etc. exactly like a normal run, but without actually making any changes to your data. Used for testing new or updated datafeed configurations.

  • Dialog - A system for creating posts for consumption. Often used for things such as FAQs, newsletters, contest feedback.
  • Pages

  • Checklists - AKA Observation Checklists - Allow an manager to record scores, notes, and other information while physically observing another user demonstrate a process. Note: This are entirely distinct from OnTrack Checklists. (Yes, we have 2 unrelated products with the same name. See below.)
  • Custom Pages

  • Dynamic Custom Pages

  • Spark - A system for automatically taking certain actions under certain conditions with modules & merits. (Yes, we have 2 unrelated products with the same name. See below.)

 


SSO Terms

SSO: Single Sign On; a method for authenticating users on one platform via another platform.

  • ADFS (Active Directory Federation Services) - An SSO solution created by Microsoft.
  • Attributes – Profile information for the user. Can be used to create on the fly or update the user’s profile.
  • IDP (Identity Provider) – This is the system that creates, maintains and manages a user database, the system of origin in an SSO. IDP’s tell the service provider that the user is real and authenticated.
  • NameID/ UID – Unique Identifier for user. Name ID comes from SAML 2.0 while UID comes from ADFS.
  • SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) - The open, generic, SSO standard that allows identity providers (IdP) to pass authorization credentials to service providers (SP). See Below for more info.
  • SP (Service Provider) – The system we are requesting to authenticate this user and provide access (system the user is accessing via SSO).

 


OnTrack Terms

OnTrack: OnTrack is a location-based Checklist and Action-item collaboration tool, enabling users to  track, and communicate for the fulfillment of compliance, safety, and quality control requirements.

  • OnTrack Checklist - An OnTrack Checklist is the basic unit for OnTrack. Not to be confused with Checklists. (Yes, we have 2 unrelated products with the same name. See above.)
  • OnTrack Sparks - Similar to Sparks (a system for automatically taking certain actions under certain conditions with modules & merits), but only usable with OnTrack Checklists, and far more powerful. (Yes, we have 2 unrelated products with the same name. See above.)

Wisetail Drive Terms

Wisetail Drive: A mobile-device media library. It's a way to provide teams instant access to the files, documents, images, videos, etc. they need to get their job done.

  • Wisetail Drive - It was originally called "The Wisetail CMS". So you may come across occasional references of that term. They just mean "Wisetail Drive".
