Please note, Learning Paths are currently in Beta and may produce unexpected results.

Creating a Module

Ready to build your first Learning Path? Navigate to Admin Tool → Modules → Modules, and click the Create Module button to get started.

After clicking Create Module and selecting an associated Role (if applicable), you'll be presented a modal to choose between creating a Classic module or Learning Path module.

If you select Classic module, you'll proceed to create a module in the way you always have.

If you choose to create a Learning Path module, click Try New Builder and you'll be navigated to Wisetail's Learning Path module creation page where you'll begin configuring the options below.

Title

Learning Path modules are Untitled by default. Adding a Title and Description for a Learning Path module is slightly different than before.

Click on the Title field, and you'll get an input modal where the module's Title and Description can be entered.

Image

Click Save to confirm the change.

Table of Contents

When the Module is first being built, the Table of Contents will contain minimal information.

The Table of Contents panel houses the Landing Page toggle (which enables/disables the Landing Page) and a Create button, which quickly creates a Module Section for you to start building out content.

Image

Once you've added a Section, the Table of Contents will outline every Section and Subsection you choose to add to your module and will also contain additional functions.

You can add new Sections to the Learning Path by clicking + Add Section, or add an existing Section from another Learning Path by clicking + Section from Library.

Additionally, you can reorder or delete Sections and Subsections in the Table of Contents by moving sections with the hamburger menu located just to the right of the section/subsection title or clicking the trash can icon respectively.

Landing Page

The Landing Page can provide information to Users about what sorts of content to expect out of the module, information about the number of content items they'll be expected to interact with, and any notes you'd want Users to know prior to starting the module.

Image

Cover Image

The cover image is the main image that a User will see right away when they navigate to the Learning Path. You can upload a cover image or select one from your existing media library. For optimal performance, we recommend cover image dimensions of 1920px x 1080px.

Instructor's Note

The Instructor's Note section is an open text area where you can add any information you want Users to know prior to starting the Learning Path. Examples include setting expectations, outlining the benefit of the Learning Path, etc.

To edit, click the pencil icon next to the title then click into the field and begin typing.

Overview

In the Overview section, you can provide Users with a more detailed breakdown of what sorts of content they should expect from the Learning Path.

To edit the Overview title, click the pencil icon.

To add or edit the fields in the Overview panel, click + Add/Edit. This will display the Overview panel where you can select which content types to toggle on/off.

Image

When a content count is enabled, the system automatically tallies up the number of applicable pieces of that content type and updates this panel.

Image

Note: Time To Complete input is manual while other fields are calculated by the system.

Image

Sections Summary

The Section Summary panel provides an overview of each section that is added to the Learning Path. The default image, title and description text for each Section pulls from the Section Description area of each section (described below) but can be edited by clicking on the text area.

The information contained in these fields will dynamically change to match the information you add to each section.

Image

Module Settings Panel

The workflow for adding and editing the configurations of a Learning Path module is very similar to that of a Classic Module.

To expose the Settings Panel, click on either of the icons shown below.

Image

The panel will expand from the right. Under Module Settings, you can add configurations that will apply to the entire module.

Image

Sections / Subsections

Sections offer the ability to create individual and structured learning experiences for your Users.

Section Title

When a Section is first created, it will be untitled and you can edit the title to your liking by clicking on the pencil icon.

Image

Section Landing Page

Each Section can also take advantage of having a customized Section Landing Page, letting Users know what to expect in the Section of their Learning Path. By default, the Section Landing Page is disabled, and you'll need to enable it if desired.

Once enabled, you'll see that the section panels available on the Module Landing Page are also available on the Section Landing Page.

Image

Section Cover Image

The Section Cover Image lets you add a visual element to the Section. For optimal performance, we recommend image dimensions of at least 1920px x 1080px.

Note: The image used for the Section Cover Image will also be reflected on the Section Summary panels found on the Module Landing Page.

Image

Section Description

You can provide additional information about the section in the Description panel. Just like on the Module Landing Page, edit the title by simply clicking on the pencil icon.

Image

Image

Section Overview

Much like the Overview panel on the main Landing Page, this gives Users insight into what sorts of content to expect in the section.

To add or edit the fields displayed on this panel, click the +Add/Edit link and select/configure from the modal.

Note: Time to Complete is manually configured while other fields are automatically calculated by the system.

You can collapse the Section Landing Page by clicking the arrow next to the toggle, providing more working space.

Section Content

You can add all sorts of content into a Section by selecting your desired content pill.

Image

Reusing Sections

You can add an existing Section from one Learning Path into another Learning Path.

Within a Learning Path's Table of Contents, you have the option of clicking +Add Section to create a net new section, or clicking +Section from Library if you want to add an existing one. A modal will appear with Section thumbnails, titles, added date and the name of the parent Learning Path for you to select from.

Image

Once a Section from the Library has been selected, that Section is added to the last position in the Learning Path. You'll see an informational banner at the top of the page advising that the Section you've added remains linked to the original Learning Path it was created in.

If you don't want to make any changes to the original, you can continue to build out the Learning Path to your liking. Sections that remain linked will also exhibit a small 'link' icon in the Table of Contents.

Image

In the event you want to make edits to the original Section, click Edit Original and you'll be navigated to the original Learning Path in a new tab. Changes made to the original will be automatically reflected in the Section added.

Image

To make edits to the Section, you'll need to unlink the Section first. Click Unlink and confirm the action.

Once unlinked, a copy of the section is added to the Learning Path and editing capabilities are re-established. The Section will no longer show a 'link' icon in the Table of Contents and you can make changes at this time.

Note: Once a Section is unlinked it will no longer have any ties to the original Learning Path, and cannot be re-linked back to it.

Subsections

The builder supports the ability to add Subsections into a Section.

By clicking + Add Subsection in the Table of Contents, you can create a separate area that can house content.

Image

When a Subsection is added, a new Subsection area will be created in your Section. The Subsection Title can be edited by clicking on the pencil icon. Within each Subsection, you can add content of your choosing.

Image

Section Settings Panel

The Section Settings Panel allows you to configure settings that apply to just the selected Section.

To access the Section Settings Panel, click on the same icons you use to expand the Module Settings Panel.

Once expanded, you can set the configurations for this Section. In the event there are multiple Sections in the Learning Path, each Section will have their own 'sub panel' and you can expand/collapse the settings for each Section with the arrow next to the Section title.

Note: Subsections cannot be independently configured.

Additional Information

Learning Paths support comments that work the same as in a classic module.

AI-Powered Translations

Learning Paths support AI-powered translations of module text and content items into other enabled languages. See AI Translations in Learning Paths for full details on setup, supported fields, and the translation workflow.

When you add new translatable content to a module that's already been translated, a New Content banner appears to flag the untranslated content so you can keep your translations complete across all enabled languages.

Flashcard Behavior

Flashcards in Learning Paths shuffle questions on each retry, matching the behavior found in Classic Modules. Every time a User retries a set of flashcards, the deck shuffles to a new random order.

Implicit Gating Between Sections

Between each section of a Learning Path, there are implicit gates. This means that a User is not able to move to another section of the Learning Path without first completing the section before it.

Content behind gates is visible to Users and they can navigate through Learning Paths to get a sense of what is to come, but content is disabled and the User cannot interact with it until the gate is unlocked.

Initial Set of Branding Items in Learning Paths

An initial set of branding/color elements is reflected in select portions of a Learning Path.

The table below illuminates how an input from the client branding form will be reflected in Learning Path modules:

Image

AutoComplete / Non-AutoComplete Learning Paths

Learning Path modules that are set to AutoComplete and contain a last section with completable/required content will display the congratulations modal automatically upon completion.

AutoComplete Modules without any required content on the last section or Non-Autocomplete Modules will have a manual Mark Complete button. This will display the congratulatory modal.

Completion Modal with Links to other Modules

Upon completion of a Learning Path module, the User gets a congratulatory modal that not only gives them some kudos for completing the content but also provides links to 5 other Modules that the User would see on their Learn page.

The order of Modules in the completion modal reflects the order that the User would see on their Learn page.

Social Features in Learning Paths

If Wisetail's social features are disabled, Learning Path modules will reflect this configuration. Namely, the following features of conventional Learning Path modules are not available:

  • Wall of Fame - Disabled.
  • Likes Report - Removed from Reports panel.
  • Module Comments Report - Removed from Reports panel.

Multi-Language Support

Many Learning Path UI elements are available in all Wisetail supported languages. Static elements that are supported in multiple languages in our Classic Module are also supported in Learning Path modules.

Note: Labels that were not supported in a Classic Module will not be supported in Learning Paths.

Learning Path: Reference Module Status

If a Learning Path is marked as a Reference module, it will behave like a Classic Reference module. Reference Learning Paths will not contain gating and will not provide any progress tracking. Reference Learning Paths cannot be completed.

Likewise, when a Reference Module is added to a Learning Path, no progress tracker or required tag is applied to it. The Reference Module is there for reference, with nothing to complete and no progress to track.

Improved Progress Tracking

Progress is measured at both the Section level and the Learning Path level.

At the Section level, progress is calculated based on the number of required pieces of content that have been completed. Only Required content can be used to calculate progress.

At the overall Learning Path level, progress is calculated based on the number of sections completed.

Learning Path modules can be pulled for any module-related reports. Sections can be used in reports separately.

Global Search

When a User executes a Global Search, content items found in Sections will be displayed in the Media results section.

Module Sections themselves do not appear as Module Results.

Conversion Tool

Please reach out to your Account Manager if you would like to test out the Conversion Tool in a secure environment

On Classic Modules, you can click on the drop-down menu and select Preview in New Builder to begin the conversion process.

Image

A new tab will open and you'll see a preview of what your Classic Module will look like as a Learning Path module. In this Preview state, you cannot edit or modify the Learning Path.

In the preview, you'll see the title of the module as both the title of the Learning Path and the title of a section. Once converted, only the Learning Path title remains; section titles will convert to 'Untitled' and you can edit/modify to your liking.

You can navigate through the module but in order to edit or make changes, you'll need to click the Convert to New Builder button.
